For cooperators
Membership in a cooperative whose books you can read.
Members govern the cooperative, receive a defined share of operating revenue, and have audit rights to the cooperative’s books. Membership is open to qualified participants on the terms in the cooperative handbook.
Three steps to membership.
Step 01
Read the handbook.
The cooperative handbook describes governance, returns, audit rights, and the responsibilities of membership. It is published in full at /join/handbook (no gate). The handbook takes about ninety minutes to read carefully.
Step 02
Apply.
The application form is at /join/membership. It collects identity verification, contact information, and asks two questions about why you are joining the cooperative. Applications are reviewed by the Governing Council on a monthly cadence.
Step 03
Receive your member packet.
On approval, the cooperative issues your membership documents — assembly voting credential, dashboard access, the canonical handbook PDF, and the contact path to the member secretary. Your share of operating revenue begins accruing on the first day of the next fiscal quarter.
What being a member means, structurally.
Right 01
Governance
Each member has one vote in the Member Assembly, regardless of capital contributed. The Assembly elects the nine-seat Governing Council to three-year terms.
Right 02
Returns
Each member receives a defined share of operating revenue, computed on a transparent formula and audited externally. The full waterfall is in the handbook.
Right 03
Audit rights
Each member has the right to inspect the cooperative's books — financial records, governance minutes, contracts. Requests are filed with the member secretary and answered within fifteen business days.
Right 04
Standing in proposals
Members can file proposals to the Assembly. Proposals filed by ten or more members go to the next Assembly vote without further review.
Governance is by member assembly.
The Member Assembly elects the Governing Council. The Council oversees the working groups. The working groups produce specific outputs. Operating revenue from those outputs returns to members on a defined schedule. The full structure diagram lives at /about/structure; the governance procedure lives at /join/governance.
The cooperative is open. The terms are the terms.
“Membership in the Mozi Cooperative is open to any qualified participant who has read the handbook and accepted its terms. Acceptance is signified by signing the membership covenant, which is a single page. The covenant binds the member to the cooperative’s bylaws and binds the cooperative to the member’s rights.”
